Here's the result with a new (old) bottle propping a necklace ala Jewelry Affaire. Yay or nay? I am undecided. I really need a mannequin. I transparent mannequin, a grungy glass mannequin, oh my god--that's all I want in the whole world right now. A mannequin made from the same materials as the transparent ancient library floors in the Utica library. I've got pictures of it somewhere--I'll see if I can find them.
Anyway...just a note here to say I've cancelled the idea of floating a second shadow exchange box around; seems 1 main exchange and 1 shadow exchange are going to be enough for the group. Pipnmolly has received the box and traded some things out, so it'll be on its way to the next person soon. See the comment section a couple posts below in the shadow exchange post to find out where it's going, and to whom you will be sending. You can find email addresses within the forum at FDs blog in the posts re: the regular swap, or if there is an issue you can contact me and I'll try to find it for you.
I can maybe take part in a future exchange once I get situated in one place.
ReplyDeleteI'm intrigued by the ancient library floors, it sounds like a sheet of ice resin to me, all grunged and tinted and scratchy-like.
The thing with the bottle in this photo is that it disappears so it's kind of a floating display of your necklace. I would think you would want to show the drape of the beads more...yes a mannequin would do that.

I can see why you would want a mannequin, as only a bit of this beautiful piece shows on the bottle. What about a large clear bottle like the ones wine is made in. Then you can find some sort of transparent paint that you can adhere to the inside or outside of the bottle, and grunge it up whatever way you choose.
ReplyDeleteI found a couple of photos of that floor on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/79445747@N00/4514515859/

That's my husband! I forgot he had stuck those on Flickr! I can't even tell you how I completely flipped out over the floors when I saw them. The whole library is pretty magical and amazing.
ReplyDeleteThis bottle is actually a wine bottle size. I weirdly like that it looks floating--I guess i just like the idea of having the display itself invisible. I find displays so distracting. But--for sure this doesn;t even come close to how it would look on a mannequin--it kind of just shows how the pendant hangs. I think because I don't have a mannequin all my photos show my necklaces so flat and I like that this gives it some depth. We went junking all day and I found a cloth covered dress form torso--but it was a male one! Only $15 too--maybe I should have bought it.
i found a half torso on etsy and then decoupaged it with old pattern tissue from an old costume pattern. i like it. maybe that's for you too. some king of plastic torso that you make your own. love, love.
ReplyDeletehey this looks gorgeous! weird angle to be sure. but the necklace looks great and you see a lot of it b/c of the double wrap.
ReplyDeleteand who knew all this exchanging was going on via my forum. i feel special and take full credit for all of it despite being totally unaware of it.
I've got to say I like it, the way the bottle is kind of fuzzy and the necklace is crisp works for me. Lovin' the detail in the beads.
